The epidermal cells of aquatic plants are that they are fixed to the upper side of the aquatic plants (in floating leaves of the aquatic plants), or they are restricted to the upper surface only (epistomatic). The epidermal layer of the leaf is modified to store aire either in petiole or lamina for gaseous exchange and floating in the aquatic plants e.g., Nelumbo, Eichhornia, Trapa, etc.

The desert plants are dorsoventrically fixed and situated on the stomatal apparatus region or present into he lower side of the region close to the root hairs. The epidermis is providing support for the spines for some xerophytic plants. They also bear a waxy cuticle layer just above the epidermal layer to prevent transpiration (in excess) and save more water by increased water surface absorption e.g., Cactus, Barberry.
