Lateral surface area means curved surface area
Total surface area means curved surface area + surface area of the bottom and top.
For example take a powder tin. It is in the shape of a cylinder
Lateral surface area = The area of the portion on which brand name and design are
printed.
The total surface area = The lateral surface area + area of two circles {top and bottom]
Note: The Lateral surface areas and total surface areas are different for different objects
