The food corporation of India purchases food grains such as wheat and rice from farmers in states where there is surplus production. Farmers are paid pre-announced prices for their crops known as MSP ( maximum selling price )
The purchased food grains are stored in granaries to distribute food grains among popr sections of society. The government makes food grains available to poor at a price much lower than market price known as issue price.
