Diamond has tetrahedral structure where all the four bonds are intact and so it is hard in nature. It is also bad conductor of electricity because there is no free electron. In case of graphite, there are hexagonal layers where one carbon is attached to three other carbon atoms. This makes it soft, lubricant because of slippery layered structure and good conductor of electricity because the layers have weak force of attraction between them.
