The tonicity of a solution is the result of its osmolarity, or the amount of dissolved solids (solute) it has. Whether a solution is hypertonic, hypotonic or isotonic depends on what it is compared to. For example, the ocean is hypertonic compared to the cytoplasm in the cells of the fish that live there. Conversely, the cytoplasm in the fish’s cells is hypotonic compared to the sea water. A solution is considered isotonic if it has the same amount of dissolved solids as the environment it is compared to.

tgusain1234: thanks JasleenKaurMehta but can you answer it in easy language
