Answer:

Differences between pericardium and pericardial fluid are as follows:

Location:

1. Pericardium is a fibro- serious membrane surrounding the heart and the root of great vessels (like aorta, pulmonary trunk)

2. Pericardial fluid is a serous fluid present in between the parietal and visceral layer of the pericardium.

Functions:

1. Pericardium keeps the heart and the root of great vessels stable and maintains the integrity. It also prevents excessive stretching of the heart.

2. Pericardial fluid helps in smooth movement of the layers of the pericardium over one another during systole and diastole.

Embryonic development:

1. Pericardium develops from the sphlanchopleuric and somatopleuric layer of the mesoderm.

2. Pericardial fluid is formed from the pericardial layer.

Answer:

The pericardium is a thin fibroelastic sac composed of two layers that separate the heart from the surrounding mediastinal structures. ... Between the two layers of the serouspericardium lies the pericardial cavity which normally contains up to 50 mL of pericardial fluid \
