Difference between metals and non-metals are :-

1. Metals react with oxygen to give basic or amphoteric oxides while non-metals react with oxygen to give acidic or neutral oxides .
2. Metals reacts with water and displace the hydrogen present in it while non - metals do not react with water .
3. Metals reacts with diluted acids and displace the hydrogen present in it while non-metals do not react with diluted acids .
4. Metals reacts with chlorine to form ionic chlorides while non-metals reacts with chlorine to form covalent chlorides .
5. Metals reacts with hydrogen to give electrovalent hydrides while non-metals reacts with hydrogen to give covalent hydrides .
