The maximum friction that can be generated between two static surfaces in contact with each other. Once a force applied to the two surfaces exceeds the limiting friction, motion will occur. For two dry surfaces, the limiting friction is a product of the normal reaction force and the coefficient of limiting friction.

Rolling resistance, sometimes called rolling friction or rolling drag, is the force resisting the motion when a body rolls on a surface. It is mainly caused by non-elastic effects; that is, not all the energy needed for deformation of the wheel, roadbed, etc., is recovered when the pressure is removed.

A lubricant is a substance, usually organic, introduced to reduce friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces.

Explanation:

ROLLING FRICTION

It is the force of friction which comes into play when a body is rolled over another body. For example: Rolling of a car's wheel over asphalt.

LIMITING FRICTION

we can define limiting friction as the maximum value of static friction that comes into play when the body is just at the point of sliding over the surface of another body. Limiting friction is the product of normal force and coefficient of limiting friction.

LUBRICANT

A lubricant is a substance used to facilitate relative motion of solid bodies by minimising friction and wear between interacting surfaces.
