Steps / Mechanism of photosynthesis :

1. Absorption of sunlight ( light energy) by chlorophyll .

2. Conversion of light energy to chemical energy and breaking of water molecule to hydrogen and oxygen

3. Reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates.

This process is significant as it helps autrophs to make their own food. They form basis of food chain. It helps in formation of oxygen used for survival of organism on earth. It maintain the balance of CO2 and O2 in the atmosphere.
