Difine the effects of electric current
Answers
Answer:
When there is a potential difference between two points in a conductive medium, electric charge starts flowing from the higher potential point to the lower potential point to balance the charge distribution between the points. The rate of flow of charge in respect of time is known as electric current.
Answer:The three main effects of electric current are:-
1. Chemical effect:-
Chemical effect of the electric current: The passage of an electric current through a conducting solution causes chemical reaction. That may cause formation of bubbles of a gas on the electrodes, deposites of metal on electrodes, changes of colour of solutions etc.
2. Magnetic effect:-
The term "magnetic effects of current " means that " a current flowing in a wire produces a magnetic field round it ". the magnetic effect of current was discovered by Oersted found that a wire carrying a current was able to deflect a magnetic needle.
3. Heating effect:-
An electric current is passing through a conductor which becomes hot after some time and produces heat. This is due to the conversion of some of the electrical energy that passes through the conductor, into heat energy. This effect of electric current is called the heating effect of current.
