Some force in liquids acts upwards on the immersed body making it feel lighter. The tendency of a fluid to exert an upward force on a body immersed partly or wholly in it is called Up thrust or Buoyant Force. It is this upward push acting on the immersed body that makes body appear lighter.

Buoyant force is the force acting on the submerged bodies in the liquid applied by the liquid on that body
