Both simple and complex carbohydrates break down into glucose. A simple carb is one that's comprised of one or two sugar molecules , while a complex carb contains three or more sugar molecules. Fiber , on the other hand , is found in healthy carbs , but isn't digested or broken down .

Fat are digested by lipase that hydrolyze the glycerol fatty acid bonds . Bile salts emulsify the fat to allow for their solutions as micelles in the change and to increase the area for the Pancreatic lipases to operate .

Protein digestion begins when you first start chewing. There are two enzymes in your saliva called amylase and lipase . They mostly break down carbohydrates and fats . Once a protein source reaches your stomach, hydrochloric acid and enzymes called proteases break it down into smaller chains of amino acids.
