Digestion is a catabolic process in which large molecules of food are broken down into simpler molecules with the help of enzymes. In humans it takes place through the digestive system. The digestive system consists of an alimentary canal and associated glands. If the inner lining of small intestine was straight instead of folding called villi, what would have happened ?

A. The rate of absorption of digested food would have been higher

B. The small intestine would have evolved to be longer for absorbing nutrients effectively

C. Enzymes would not have been secreted

D. Humans would not be able to survive
