the food first enters the buccal cavity , with the help of salivary enzymes and the gnashing process of teeth it get broke down to form boll ,which then moves through epiglottis and then through pharynx, eventually getting into the oesophagus . the wavy movement of food through oesophagus is known as peristalsis.then it gets into stomach in which the HCl, pepsin and pancreatic juices convrting boll into chyme by digesting carbohydrates and proteins and then in small intestine water and minerals are absorbed, also it contains small finger like projections called villi to increase the surface area.In large intestine absorption of water and electrolyte take place. it also secretes mucous inorder to lubricate the faecal matter through rectum and anus leading to excretion.
