Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Digital India’ campaign, which aims to create a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.In order to understand the pros and cons of this campaign first we should understand what does Digital India actually mean. According to the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, it is a program to prepare India for a knowledge future. The vision of Digital India is centered on 3 key areas. Firstly, to provide a digital infrastructure as a utility to every citizen. Secondly, to provide governance and services on demand. Thirdly, to digitally empower the citizens of the country. All this basically includes high speed internet as a core utility, mobile phone and bank account, enabling participation in digital and financial space, making financial transactions electronically and cashless and services available in real time from online and mobile platform. Moreover, it also includes universally accessible digital resources all documents and certificates to be available on cloud, collaborative digital platforms for participative governance and many more.
