Given,

He deposited 12.5% of his salary to the bank.

He spent 80% of the remaining amount.

And he is left with Rs. 3500

To find,

His total earning.

Solution,

Let,the total earning = Rs. x

[Assume, x as a variable to do the further mathematical calculations.]

Deposited amount = x × 12.5/100 = Rs. x/8

Remaining amount = x - x/8 = Rs. 7x/8

Now,the left amount is (100%-80%) = 20% of the remaining amount

Left amount = 7x/8 × 20/100 = Rs. 7x/40

Now, if we compare the two values of the left amount then we will get the following mathematical equation,

7x/40 = 3500

x = 3500 × 40/7

x = 20000

Hence,his monthly salary is Rs. 20000.
