Let the present age of father be x years
and present age of son be y years, then ;
_____________________________
y + 30 = x
____________________________
After 4 years;
the age of father will be (x+4) years
& age of son will be (y+4) years

(y+4)/(x+4) = 3/5
5y+20 = 3x+12
5y - 3x = -8

5y -3(y+30) = -8
5y -3y -90 = -8
2y = 82
y = 41

x = y+30
x = 41+30
x = 71

hence the present age of father is 71 years and that of son is 41 years.

guru8: solve using one variable
SARDARshubham: no, it can't be solved by one variable only
