Hydrolysis breaks bonds whileHydration adds an H2O molecule without breaking the bonds. And practically, reduction IS the adding of hydrogen and removal of oxygen. Not if you're working at A level standard, as previously stated.

In hydrolysis, water acts as electrophilic reactant which interacts with the other compound to split its weak bond. A simple example is splitting of salt in water into Na+ and Cl- ions (NaCl + H2O ---> NaOH + HCl) which recombine with H+ and OH- ion of water to form new compound.

In hydration, water acts somewhat as catalyst - it gets added (no splitting) to the compound to give it crystalline shape. In that case it breaks the weak unsaturated covalent bond of the compound by adding H and OH groups. So hydration increases the original bond spacing, but the compound remains intact. There is no splitting of parent compound. Example C2H4 + H2O → CH3CH2OH. In this case, H and OH groups are added by breaking the weak C=C bond in C2H4.
