Dipak was asked by his teacher to determine the boiling point of a liquid. He set

up the apparatus. He recorded the boiling point of the liquid as 120°C and

reported the reading to his teacher. The teacher asked him to repeat the

experiment after dipping the bulb of the thermometer in the liquid and also

placing the beaker on a tripod stand covered with a wire gauze. After reading this

narration, draw a neat and labelled diagram for this experiment and answer the

following questions:

i) Was the reading taken by the student correct ?

ii) What was the necessity of wire gauze ?

Answer:

See in the explanation. Please mark as brilliant.

Explanation:

1.) No, the reading taken at first is wrong.

2.) Beaker is made up of glass, so while heating the water there may be a chance that the beaker may break down or blast. It is very dangerous. A gauze helps us prevent this. Therefore it is safe.
