A shaft made of mild steel is required to transmit 100 kW at 300
rpm. The supported length of the shaft is 3m. It carries two pulleys
each weighing 1500N supported at a distance of 1m from each end
respectively. Assume safe shear stress as 55 MPa. Determine the
diameter of the shaft.

Design a C.l. rigid flange coupling to transmit 15 kW at 900 rpm from
an electric motor to a compressor. The following working stresses
may be used, shear stress for shaft, bolt and key=40 MPa, Crushing
stress for bolt and key=85 MPa, Shear stress for C.l=10 MPa.

Design a flat belt drive to transmit 20 kW at 740 rpm to an
aluminium rolling machine, Speed ratio = 3. The distance between
the pulleys is 3 metre. Diameter of the smaller pulley is 400mm.
Assume small pulley diameter factor as 0.8.

Design a V-belt drive to the following data:
Power to be transmitted - 75kW, Diameter of driving pulley = 400
mm, Diameter of driven pulley - 1200 mm, Speed of driving pulley
= 1440 rpm, Speed of driven pulley = 480 rpm Centre distance =
2500mm, Service = 16hrs/day, heavy duty.
