Present Indefinite => Past Indefinite .

Present continuous => Past continuous.

Present perfect => Past perfect.

Present perfect continuous => Past perfect continuous.

Past Indefinite => Past perfect.

Past continuous => Past perfect continuous.

If the reporting verb is in present or future tense then the tense of reported speech will not change.

⭐ Convey the message given by the first person to the third person is termed as indirect speech.

⭐ The conveyer is the second person to whom the first person told the compliment or a sentence.

✴ Indirect speech is a report on what someone else said or wrote without using that person's exact words.

Words of direct speech will turn to indirect in the following way :

⭐ Now - Then

⭐ Today - That day

⭐ Last night - previous night

⭐ Said - Told

⭐ Will be - would be

Examples :

  1. She said to me, "Alas! Imran is no more. "

She exclaimed with sorrow that Imran was no more.

    2. Ravi said, "My father will come tomorrow."

Ravi said that his father would come the next day.
