Rule 1: In Direct speech the first word after the inverted commas beings with a capital letter.

Rule 2: The exact word of the speaker are marked of by the inverted commas are called Dirct speech. The speech within cotation is separated from the reporting person by the comma.

Rule 3: Words such as Alas, Oh, wow should be left out in indirect speech.

Rule 4: Removing the question mark while forming an assertive sentence.

E.g:

Direct: She said to prachi, "Do you have an extra copy?"

Indirect: She asked prachi if she had an extra copy.

Rule 5: Simple present changes into Simple past.

Rule 6: Simple future: will changes into would.

Rule 7: The Reporting verb 'said' becomes 'told' along with the subject and the connector 'that'when it is followed by an object.
