There are four directions generally.
These are North East West and South (NEWS).
We know that Sun rises in east and sets in west.
At early morning, if stand facing the Sun, then that is east and backside is west, right hand (also called dakshin in Sanskrit) towards south and left hand towards north direction.
But according to Hindu mythology, there are ten directions.
These are North, East, West, South, North-East, North-West, South-East, South-West, upside and downside.
These are North East West and South (NEWS).
