Directions: Answer the following:
1. Assume that the cholesterol levels in a certain population have mean u = 150 and standard deviation 0 = 12. The cholesterol levels for a random sample of n = 40 individuals are measured and the sample mean x is determined. What is the computed value at a = 0.01 if x = 147? 2. The maximum heart rate of a person at the age of 20 is 200 beats per minute. Conduct a survey with your neighbors whose age is between 15- 20. Given :  the cholesterol levels in a certain population have mean   = 150 and standard deviation   = 12.

The cholesterol levels for a random sample of n = 40 individuals are measured and the sample mean x is determined.

To Find :   the computed value at a = 0.01  if  x = 147

Solution:

standard deviation   = 12.

sample of n = 40

SE = Standard Error  = SD/√n   = 12/√40  = 1.897

a = 0.01 => 99 % confidence interval hence  z = ± 2.575

147  ±  4.8857

computed value
