Answer:

Independent variable: Temperature of the room

Dependent variable : Exam score of the students

Extraneous variable : Very low or cold temperature

Explanation:

Independent variable-

  • Those variables whose value do not depend on any other variable and are manipulated by the researcher are termed as independent variables.
  • In this example, three values of the temperature are given and these are independent variables as the value of temperature is not affected by any other variable, only researcher can change it.
  • It is also known as a manipulated, experimental , or treatment variable.

Dependent variable :

  • The variable obtained by manipulating the value of dependent variable is termed as dependent variable. Upon it the effect of change is observed. It is observed but not manipulated.
  • In the question , the effect of temperature on exam scores of students is measured. So, the dependent variable is exam marks.

Extraneous variable:

  • It can affect the outcome of the study . In addition to it, extraneous variables can also affect the dependent variable. However, it is not manipulated by the researcher.
  • In the given question, if cold temperature is used it may affect the outcome. Therefore, it is an extraneous variable.
