In the beginning , there lived an old couple who could hardly earn their daily bread. They had one child who was very good from her heart as well as lookwise. Soon the father felt sick and died.

Then , mother and daughter had to work harder than ever. Unfortunately her mother also reached her last days. Worried with the girls future, during her last breath she warned her daughter about her beauty. She ordered her to hide it from all men with a lacquered wooden bowl.

Not after long , her mother's death the poor girl was criticized by everyone regarding the bowl in her head. She however remained optimistic and worked with much diligence. Soon the master being impressed took her to his own house and treated her as his own daughter. The master's wife was sick and the girl took much care of her. In a way his master's family became a new family for the girl.

During that time , the master's son was working out. Shortly he came back home to meet his mom dad. One day he managed to have a sly peep under the bowl, and seeing the beauty of the maid he immediately feel in deep love with her. He vowed that none other than the maid would be his wife. His relatives were not at all happy with it , and did everything to change his mind but nothing could made him away from the girl.

After that , the boy proposed the girl for marriage. Viewing everything the girl at first declined. But one fine night her mother came into her dreams and told her to yield result to the prayers of her lover. Henceforth the girl agreed for the marriage. Time came for the girl to remove the bowl but to her dismay, she couldn't.

Finally , when the ritual of drinking the wine came the wooden bowl on its own bursted. With this burst their was a shower of pearls, precious stones, diamond, rubies, etc. But what astonished everyone even more than this vast treasure was the beauty of the bride. The girl and the boy together made the most happy bridegroom in whole of the Japan.
