DIRECTIONS:
To perform this activity you need two shallow dishes, a potato, knife, water and salt.
Fill both the dishes with some water
Add two tablespoons of salt to only one dish, while leaving the other without salt.
Label which dish is having no salt and which has salt added to it.
Slice the potato lengthwise, so that you end up with several pieces that are flat on both sides.
Place a few pieces of potato in the plain water, and an equal number of pieces in the salty water.
Wait for 20 minutes, then make your observations.
Write the observations in the given table and then write conclusion in the given space.

Answer:

Let the dish with plain water be A and with salty water be B

OBSERVATION: the potato in the dish A will get swollen and is known as turgid cell.

the potato in dish B will shrink and is known as plasmolysed cell.

CONCLUSION: This shows that the plant cell if put in hypotonic (plain water) solution, it will get swollen and if put in hypertonic solution, it will get shrunken.

Explanation:

This happens because plain water is hypertonic solution and so water will move from a region of higher concentration to lower concentration through osmosis and will enter the cell but the cell will not burst as the cell wall is rigid and will exert equal amount of pressure as by the swollen cell.

In case of hypertonic solution, water will move out of the cell and the contents of the cell will shrink away from the cell wall. This process is known as plasmolysis and therefore the cell is known as plasmolysed cell.

Hope it will help
