Monday, December, 1, 4:18 P.M. Joe Leaphorn meets Isaacs, who explains the importance of the archaeological site and describes Jason’s Fleece, a hippie place that George often visited.

Monday; December 1, 8:37 P.M. Leaphorn watches the inhabitants of Jason’s Fleece.

Monday, December 1, 9:11 P.M. Leaphorn learns about an incident that happened between Halsey and Susanne and George just before he disappeared. On his way home, he is told that Ernesto’s body has been found.

Tuesday, December 2, 7:22 A.M. Leaphorn watches the desert in the rising sun and meditates on the story of the Navajo Nation.

Tuesday, December 2, 6:11 P.M. Leaphorn drives to the Bowlegs’ hogan, hoping to talk to Shorty, but it is too late: George’s father has been killed.

Tuesday, December 2, 10:15 P.M. Leaphorn takes Cecil to a Franciscan mission and searches the hogan. He finds a box and listens to Cecil tell how George was looking for a kachina.

Wednesday, December 3, 10:00 A.M. O’Malley takes over the investigation. Leaphorn is intrigued by the presence of a narcotics agent, Baker, and understands the hippies are suspects.

Wednesday, December 3, 12:15 P.M. Leaphorn disobeys his orders and goes back to the hippie place to talk to Susanne, who tells him she is in love with Isaacs.

Wednesday, December 3, 3:48 P.M. Leaphorn speaks to Isaacs who shows him pieces of flint to demonstrate the importance of his discovery on the Folsom hunter.

Wednesday, December 3, 5 P.M. Leaphorn has a long talk with Father Ingles who explains that George was fascinated with the Zuñi culture and that he wanted to become one.

Thursday, December 4, 10:30 A.M. On his third visit to the hogan, Leaphorn meets Susie, who is running away from the hippie place and Ted Isaacs. They explore the hunting site where George could be hiding.

Thursday, December 4, 2:17 P.M. They find George’s tracks, but also understand someone is watching them, and that it could be the killer, the Man Who Wore Moccasins.

Thursday, December 4, 6:08 P.M. Leaphorn is shot and realizes he has been the victim of a booby trap. He is paralyzed and spends the night watched by Susie, who probably saves his life. On his way back to his truck, he finds a bead and a lance point.

Friday, December 5, 2:00 P.M. Leaphorn describes the incident to O’Malley, and explains what a Salamobia is.

Saturday, December 6, 4:19 P.M. Leaphorn watches the beginning of the Zuñi celebration of the Shalako ceremonials, convinced he will see George there. He understands that if George comes to Shalako, he will probably be killed.

Sunday, December 7, 2:07 A.M. Leaphorn is about to give up when he spots George. He tries to reach him, but he is too late: George is killed by someone wearing the Salamobia mask.

Sunday, December 7, 9:00 A.M. Leaphorn goes back to Ted Isaacs’ camper, and tells him that Susie has gone. They solve the mystery of the boys’ murders.
