The disadvantage of common names of an irganism is that they vary place to place,one organism may have several common names in different languages and at different places which may be not known to everybody in the world so that's why scientific names are given preference  over common names because they are the same at every place and known worldwide and all the scientific names are in latin so their is only one scientific name for one organism
