Answer:
Weedicides are used for improving the fertility of the soil and for killing weeds. But they also have several disadvantages.
Explanation:
Weedicides are water-soluble chemicals, that can be sprayed on the weeds to kill them/ stop their growth.
Disadvantages of weedicides:
- They have the potential to trigger cancer in humans, upon consumption without sterilising and washing the crop thoroughly in water
- Since they are water-soluble, excess water can carry away the chemicals into nearby water bodies and cause water-borne diseases like dysentery, etc.
- The weedicides can also affect the pH of soil. It can lead to acidification of soil or make it alkaline.
- they can destroy the micro-organisms in the soil, leading to reduction in fertility of the soil.
- Weedicides can be severe skin or eye irritants, it can cause rashes and skin/ eye allergies.
There are numerous more disadvantages, but I couldn't mention them here due to time constraints.
