In a washing machine, discharging detergent particles from the washed fabric is achieved through the process called ‘rinsing’.

The process of rinsing is simply rinsing the clothes with clean water (just as in washing clothes by hand). Usually rinsing is followed by ‘spin’ which removes water from the clothes by spinning it at a high speed.

Washing machines generally follow three processes – wash, rinse and spin dry, which happens within the washing drum of the machine. Washing happens first, in which clothes are washed with detergent. It is then rinsed with clean water and finally dried by the spin process.
