Discipline, devotion and dedication are essential to build a good character

Unquestionably, discipline, devotion and dedication are essential to build a good character. There are many examples who epitomized these qualities. Personages such as Abraham Lincoln, Helen Keller, Vivekananda, Yogananda, Einstein, Dr. Kalam, Mahatma Gandhi, and many more who developed phenomenal characters using the transforming power of discipline, devotion, and dedication.

I would like to cite the example of Abraham Lincoln here who not only enriched his own life through the 3 d’s (discipline, devotion, and dedication), but also millions of people through enactment of Emancipation Proclamation.

If there has been any great soul who has inspired millions of people, it has been Lincoln! And his own life was nothing but a series of incessant failures that he converted into stepping stones to his success. Born to a poor family, he saw many hardships through his life. For instance he had to provide for his own education; he had no money to buy books. So he borrowed them. Sometimes he had to go long distances on foot to get a book. And at night he used to do writing and arithmetic practice on the kitchen floor with burnt out coal. Ultimately he succeeded in becoming the President of America. But before this success, he suffered many failures. He kept on trying. He learnt the lessons he needed to from his failures. His life is the most inspiring life for all those who really want to be successful. And the secret is never ever to give up your aspirations. The failures are actually a test of man's worthiness of success that is waiting to come to him. Adversities really serve men better than the empty joys!

Discipline, devotion and dedication are the three jewels that enrich our behavior.

If a person lacks these basic values, then he/she cannot rise in life.

Discipline helps us to be calm and composed towards our duties; devotion makes us devoted towards a particular task and dedication provides us the required passion and courage to accomplish the task.

There are many examples that epitomized these qualities.

One of such is Hellen Keller.

Keller was struck with an illness when she was a very young child that made her blind and deaf.

She cannot communicate with others but wants to understand others and to make herself understood.

In order to overcome her frustration, Keller with the help of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, started to learn writing, reading and speaking with sign language.

She was very much dedicated towards her passion to live like other people.

She devotedly did her task and as a result the world now knows Hellen Keller as a great novelist, a political activist and the first deaf-blind person to earn Bachelor Degree.
