●Ethanol is present in liquid state in room temprature.
●Mixture of alcohol and ethane leads to the formation of ethanol.
●Even a small quantity of alcohol if consumed causes drunkeness.
●It is a good solvent and is used in the medicines like:- Tincture iodine, cough syrups and many other tonics.
● Reaction of Ethanol and sodium gives sodium ethoxide.
2Na + 2 CH3CH2OH------> 2CH2CH2ONa +H2
● Reaction of ethanol with excess concentrated sulphuric acid [ at 443K ] results in the dehydration of Ethanol leading to the formation of (Ethene).
2CH3CH2OH ----------> 2CH2=2CH2 + H2O
