Gastrointestinal tract, also called digestive tract or alimentary canal, pathway by which food enters the body and solid wastes are expelled. The gastrointestinal tract includes the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.
The digestive system includes the organs of the alimentary canal and accessory structures. The alimentary canal forms a continuous tube that is open to the outside environment at both ends. The organs of the alimentary canal are the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine.
Alimentary Canal is a part of Digestive system. Alimentary canal is a tube starting from mouth , running upto anus. While Digestive system is combination of Alimentary canal and Digestive Glands.
The walls of the alimentary canal have the same four basic layers, (also known as tunics) — the mucosa, submucosa, musclaris externa, and serosa. Each layer contains a certain tissue type that plays a crucial role in the breakdown of food.
