Firstly , let us take a basic knowledge about the Merchant of Venice .
so,
It is a drama written by William Shakespeare , In which there are 4 main characters named Antonio , Bassanio , Shylock and Portia .
Now, coming back to the Question :-
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
As, we know that Bassanio loved Portia so much . But , Portia was bounded by his father will , in which she cannot choose his Lord according to her choice but Bassanio was ready to do anything for her . Bassanio had already spent a lot of Antonio's money to do show off of his money and to participate in the in competition to win Portia's hand . Antonio was a very good friend of Bassanio .He had spent so much money of Antonio , but he still wanted more money from him . But he was not having any more money . So, he advised Bassanio to take money from market on his name.

In search of moneylender , He went to a cruel Jew named Shylock (enemy of Antonio) . Shylock agrees to give money to Bassanio on Antonio name . But he signed a bond with Antonio that if he fails to repay the bond (3000 ducats ) to Shylock back on time . He had to give one pound of flesh of his body to Shylock (malice ).

CONSEQUENCES OF BOND:-

Antonio fails to pay the money on time due to loss of his sails . He ought to give one pound of flesh to Jew . But , Because of the smartness of Portia (Bassanio wins competition and marry Portia ) he get saved of paying one pound of flesh .
