Reptiles and amphibians are distantly related to each other. But inspite of their similarities they can be distinguished by their physical appearance.
Amphibians live both on land and water - in water with gills and as they age they live on land with lungs. Their skin is smooth, moist and sometimes sticky, with mucous glands, Tay soft eggs, usually in water or damp places. They defend themselves by secreting toxic poisons, they can also bite. They dont have claws.
Reptiles have scales, breathe air and lay eggs. They breathe with lungs right from the time they are born. They lay hard, leathery eggs on land, or they keep their eggs inside their bodies until they hatch. They defend themselves with claws, tail-whipping and biting.
