Explanation:

Strength - He was imprisoned for twenty seven years and made it through without really having been effected in any visible way with his held high. He came out of prison and he didn't falter as he quickly became active in politics again and standing up to the apartheid rule, becoming the President of South Africa and then playing a key role in ending apartheid in South Africa.

Strong Spirited - Despite being imprisoned for twenty seven years and the governments harsh interrogation tactics his spirit never faltered. Mandela never changed his stance opposing the apartheid and he always fought for what he believed in, and in this case it was equality of the races.

Bravery - Goes with being strong spirited. He stood up for what he believed was right and despite the apartheid governments best attempts they couldn't stop him from spreading his ideas and eventually taking power.

Determination and Perseverance - Many people wouldn't even have tried to stand up to the South African government at the time or if they had they'd probably have given up when pressured or threatened with beatings or death. But Nelson Mandela didn't. Even after being arrested, found guilty and put in prison he didn't give up trying to fight for equality. After being released from prison twenty seven years later, he still kept fighting. Mandela quickly rejoined the African National Congress and became President of South Africa and ended apartheid.
