• Autonomy movement is the combined action of people in a region so as to get a separate state so that they can manage their affairs themselves without interference of others.
• Through this movement they demand rearrangement of relations among central, state and local government in their country .
• This is because they want to enjoy autonomy of their own region so they can manage affairs of their region themselves and in their own way .
• The autonomy demands in Assam were raised by non assames when they realised that Assam government by forcefully imposing Assamese language on them.
• Other reasons include :

2. Remoteness and isolation of various social groups and lack of their representatives in administration.

• During Autonomous movement there were riots throughout the state.
• And also 'All Party Hill Leaders ' Coference was formed.
• As a result of this movement 5 states were created out of assam namely:

1. Meghalaya
2. Mizoram
3. Arunachal Pradesh
4. Tripura
5. Manipur

• Also bodos , karbis and Dimasas tribal communities were granted autonomy.
