The processes taking place in our body that require muscular force input are as follows:

1) The pumping action of the heart - the cardiac muscles are responsible for this action. The contraction of the cardiac muscles pump blood from the ventricles to various body parts.

2) Inhalation and exhalation - The inhalation and exhalation of gases, oxygen and carbon(IV)oxide, in and out of the lungs require the action of such muscles as the diaphragm, the internal intercostal muscles and the external intercostal muscles. The diaphragm, for example, when it contracts, aid in the expulsion of air from the lungs and relaxes to allow air into the lungs.

3) Peristalsis - this is the movement of food along the alimentary canal. The longitudinal smooth muscles and the circular smooth muscles are responsible for this movement. For the bolus of food to move, the longitudinal muscles relax, the circular muscles behind the bolus contract while the circular muscles in front of the food bolus relax. These muscular actions allow the movement of food in the gut.
