Tribals and nomads in India, are an extreme minority. Most of these communities are disorganised, and do not even figure out in the government’s list of citizens. The main reason for this could be that they move from place to place and are not literate. This particular lifestyle also means that their basic civic necessities are not met. Most of them do not have permanent homes. Health and sanitation facilities are almost nil and children do not go to school. As a result of these, they are treated with suspicion by the society.

The Indian government is trying to bring tribals and nomads under the common roof of the society. They are encouraged to set up local stores which sell tribal art and artefacts and to send their children to schools. Reservation in education and jobs are also provided. As a result of these measures, tribals and nomads are slowly coming out of their isolation and adopting modern ways of life.
