Hey Friend,

Ф Nationalism

The birth of nationalism was one of the most distinguishing feature of the second half of the 19th century. The concept of nationalism was initiated by the French revolution and the socio-religious movements in India.

The general aim of British policies in India was to promote their own interests at the cost of welfare of Indians.

Ф Factors promoting the growth of Nationalism -

1. Economic Exploitation of India

2. Repressive colonial policies followed by the British in India

3. The socio-religious reform movements

4. Rediscovery of India's past

5. Influence of the western Education

6. Role of Press

7. Development of modern means of transport and communication

Ф Growth of Political Associations -

As a result, many public associations were started in different parts of India after 1858, which were the forerunners of the Indian National Congress.

1. East India Association - 1866, by Dadabhai Naoroji
2. Indian Association - 1876, by Surendrananth Banerjee
3. Indian National Conference - 1883, Surendranath Banerjee.

Finally, the Indian National Congress was formed in 1885. It was founded by A O Hume!
It stood for the hopes and aspirations of the people of India who accepted its leadership in launching various freedom movements!

Hope it helps!
