The factors responsible for decline of forest are:

1.increasing population :as the population increased the people started extending their cultivation boundaries towards forest by clearing it.

2. Encouragement by Britishers for increasing the growth of commercial crops like cotton.,jute, wheat etc.

3. Spread of trade in India :spread of trade in India led to spread of railways which needed sleepers to hold the tracks which again resulted in disappearment of trees.

4. Reduction oetrees in England which created problems for Royal Navy. They started exploiting Indian forest.

Emergence of plantation : Scientific forestry started by Britishers included the process of plantation. In this process forest having different kinds of trees were cut instead in place of them new trees were planted. This was also a major cause decline of forest in India
