Reasons for the decline in the ground water table in India (exclusively in North India):
• The Green Revolution that arrived in India in the later half of 1950 gave rise to a large amount of water consumption in areas in and near North India. This created a mild scarcity of water in North India as a result of which the Ground Water was overexploited.
• Due to the carelessness of the Indians with regard to water harvesting and consumption, ground water is the major source of water in North India and it's overexploitation has led to decrease in the ground water table.
