Allan octavian Hume a retired Civil Servant il invited the educated Indians to form of an all Indian organisation to represent the Indian people this led to the formation of the Indian National Congress the Congress held its first session at Bombay on 28 December 1885 the session was presided over by womesh Chandra bonnerjee and was attended by 72 delegates
the Congress led India's freedom movement also called the national movement from 1885 to 1947 the movement can be divided into four main phase the moderate phase 1885 to 1905 the extremist Phase 1905 to 1918 the Gandhian phase 1919 to 1939 and the final phase 1939 to 1947
