Answer:

The population of the country can also be divided into rural and urban. It is because rural and urban lifestyles differ from each other in terms of livelihood and level of development. Majority of people are engaged in primary activities in rural areas and most people are employed in the secondary sector in urban areas.

The figure shows the rural–urban sex composition in some selected countries. In Western countries, males are more than females in rural areas and females are more than males in urban areas. This is because females have migrated to urban areas in search of employment opportunities, while in rural areas, farming is mechanised and is controlled largely by males.

In Asian countries like India, Nepal and Pakistan, the situation is reverse. Since males from rural regions migrate to urban areas in search of employment, they have outnumbered the females in urban areas. The number of females in rural areas remains comparatively high.
