  • Displacement reaction is a chemical reaction in which a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound.

  • Both metals and non-metals take part in displacement reactions.

  • Example : Reaction of iron nails with copper sulphate solution.

Displacement reaction

\tt\rightarrow a reaction on which ions are replaced from a lower reactive metal to a highly reactive metal is called as displacement reaction.

for metals:-

EXAMPLE:-

\tt Na + FeO \xrightarrow{displacement} Fe + NaO

here, sodium displaces iron from it's oxide of iron(II) oxide and forms sodiumoxide.

for non - metals

reaction in which a more active non-metal displaces a less reactive non metal from it's compound

example:-

C+AB - A+CB

hope this helps!!
