ANSWER:

1) Peer pressure. This is especially true with younger people; however, our peers can influence us to such a degree because we want to fit in and we don’t want to disappoint our friends. We may use a drug or drink alcohol simply because our friends do, even if we never used the substance before.

2) Socializing. As social creatures, we want to be with others to share our joys and sorrows. We go to happy hours to talk about work, we go to parties, and we go to events. All of the places we socialize typically serve alcohol and I have been to some concerts where I know people are smoking more than cigarettes :-) I know many people who socialize by going to their local bar after work each day. That becomes their place to vent or to celebrate an achievement.

3) Community. The communities in which we live often provide opportunities to drink and to be festive or to celebrate. We have 4th of July barbecues, community events, or religious services where alcohol is often served.

4) Socioeconomic status. There is research to support that individuals from some socially disadvantaged communities exhibit more substance abuse. Socioeconomic status refers to housing, access to healthcare, unemployment, occupation, income, or education.

5) Stress. Stress is something that means different things to different people. Many individuals report using drugs or alcohol to relieve stress. Social stress can include things like the environment or major disasters such as hurricanes, floods, accidents, or acts of terrorism. If an individual is exposed to one of these stressors, using drugs or alcohol might help them to relieve the symptoms associated with stress. In a way, it can help them to forget the trauma they experienced.

hope it helps you...

The factors that lead to an increased awareness of abusing substances in schools are:

  • Having peers who use such substances will influence them and the other students to use them. It will be an encouragement to others to follow the same and take such risks. It will give them a sense of belonging in their circle.
  • Many try it out as an adventure and to impress the other students. The excitement they get from doing so will make them forget about the dangers of using it.
  • The content on such stuff accessible through television and social media is another influencing factor as it is showcased in an admirable and glamorous way.
  • When a kid has self-esteem issues, the chance of getting attracted to such dangers is high. They will find it difficult to say no to such traps and eventually get indulged in them.
