The tricuspid valve opens to allow the venous blood which has collected in the right atrium to flow into the right ventricle and it closes off to prevent the blood from flowing back into the atrium when the ventricle contracts. The blood from the right ventricle is pumped into the lungs, where it is oxygenated.

In the same way bicuspid valve for left atrium and ventricle.
