In the story " A horse and two goats," by R.K. Narayan, the drumstick tree under whose shadow Mimi's but resided is of major significance. Mimi's wife used to often boil the drumsticks and give them to Muni, but the old man had a desire to chew them out of sauce. Unfortunately, he could not fulfill his desire as he was short of money to even buy the nesecarry day to day supplements for making food. This shows us the poverty which Muni and his wife had to go through on a daily basis. They were even unable to afford the simple desires of daily life. This prepares the stage for us to hope for a bright future for Muni, as we wish that his condition may recover by the end of the story.
