there are so many reasons

1.plastic is non biodegradable so wherever we dump them they will just make the soil infertile
2.we cannot destroy plastic if we burn them they will produce carbon di oxide and many other harmful gases. the only way is we can recycle them.
3.it is poisonous for health also if someone will eat plastic he will die due to suffocation.

so,at last there is no harm in using it , but we should not over use it.
